ALMS  Round 8 – Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport – Canada

Following the excellent run at Road America everyone in the team was looking forward to continuing the progress at the tricky and fast Mosport track. A track that Ben finds challenging but very enjoyable. It is a circuit that demands the drivers full time concentration with a succession of high speed corners and long straights, a circuit with only four braking points. In order to maintain their progress the both drivers where eager to get as much track time as possible, unfortunately minor gremlins hampered progress and limited track time for both drivers. With an unknown technical problem occurring in the last session it was decided to curtail practice and save the car for qualifying. Ben was given the job of qualifying with a one lap flyer. This he did and did well placing the car 13th on the grid and in good position to challenge from the start of the race.

With the technical gremlins sorted Gerrado started the race and drove a solid opening stint handing over to Ben with just under 2 hours to run. Ben immediately started making in-roads into the rest of the prototypes and was soon up to 11th place and closing on the cars in front. On a track that Ben enjoys he was beginning to show the potential of the car and the Dunlop tires. When about to gain another place he was forced to make an unscheduled pitstop due to a battery working itself loose. This caused them to lose a couple of laps and effectively blunted their charge through the field. With so little track time before the race  the amount of time they spent on car set-up and fuel mapping was nil, so the team used the remainder of the race to assess various fuel settings and maps which would help future strategy. Despite the technical difficulties over the weekend the team stuck to their job and the car completed the race with another solid top ten finish. The next round is on the streets of Detroit, which will also be the last outing for the current car before the new Lola Coupe makes it’s debut at Road Atlanta.
